Parish Mission Statement

St. Angela Merici Parish is a family bound together by a common faith.  We are ever faithful to the Catholic Church and its teachings, revealed to us by Christ, and to the Magisterium (the Pope and the Bishops).  Our Parish family is part of the larger family of the Archdiocese of New Orleans.  We are enriched by our different backgrounds, talents and abilities.

In union with the Bishops and the universal Church, and guided by the Holy Spirit, we proclaim our Christianity and our call to live Christ's message and keep Him central in our lives.  We come together in worship and service, unique yet the same, all members of Christ's mystical body.

As members of His body, our mission is to worship God; serve our Parish, the Archdiocese, and the universal Church; serve those who need us; enrich each other with our prayers and love; provide religious education; and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Parish Goals

  • Have the Pastoral Council work with each parish organization to enable them to act on their “faith based” mission statements.
  • Promote greater involvement by youth, teens and young adults in parish liturgies by twenty percent.
  • Increase attendance of youth and teens by ten percent at weekend Masses and special liturgies.
  • Communicate technological resources for spiritual development.
  • Integrate “young adults” (ages 18-40) more fully into parish life and ministries.
  • Develop and implement a plan for the June 2013-June 2014 celebration of the parish’s commemoration of the 50th Anniversary
  • Formulate and undertake a process that begins the implementation of the master plan.
  • Improve and maintain the appearance of the physical facilities so that it creates a great “First Impression” for visitors and parishioners.

  • HISTORY PHOTOS  We are looking for photos from the early years of St. Angela Merici Parish for a SAM History booklet, especially from Leon’s on Phosphor Ave. If you have any old photos, please contact Eric Broadbridge at 504-884-0049 or eric@northcoastoil.com.
  • THE COOKBOOKS ARE COMING! Thanks to all of your support and contributions, Celebrating Faith & Food is being published as you read this! The cookbooks will be available beginning on JUNE 1, 2013, at the Opening Celebration and parish dinner. They will be available during July at the rectory, and in September you can find them at any parish organization meeting.  Be sure to get your copy of Celebrating Faith & Food to enjoy and have as a keepsake of St. Angela’s 50th Anniversary!

  •     Master Plan - Conceptual renderings of the Master Plan for our campus facilities are available on this website and have also been distributed at all masses this past weekend.  Please take time during this week to review this material.  Next weekend, October 13-14, we will have a brief survey for you to complete that will indicate your support of this project.  We will conduct that service at each mass next weekend.  Click here to see more about the Master Plan

  • Founders Gathering - During our parish's 50th Anniversary year a gathering is planned to honor the men and women who were our founders.  So much has happened as our parish has grown. We would like to reconnect with those who were instrumental in the ounding of our St. Angela Merici family. If you were here from the beginning, June 1964, please call Dianne at the rectory, 835-0324 to give us your name and contact information.
