The Senior Citizens group was established in 1979 and has a wide variety of goals and activities for its members. The spiritual, cultural, and social enrichment of each member, as well as support of parish activities and programs, are important goals of this organization. Examples of activities include: May Crowning, Day of Recollection, Senior Citizen Mass, participation in the annual Parish fair, occasional in-town and out-of-town entertainment trips, and special luncheons held away from the Parish. During the year, this group collects non-perishable food items for the poor. They also help the school and other organizations by collecting Community Coffee bags, Campbell Soup labels, Betty Crocker education coupons, eye- and sunglasses, and hearing aids. In addition to their regular meetings and activities, they also participate in Archdiocesan Senior Citizen functions, such as the Archdiocesan Senior Citizens Mass and the Archdiocesan Awards Luncheon.
Meetings are held in the gym on the first Thursday of the month from August through May, at noon. A short business session, socializing, bingo, and refreshments are part of each meeting, which usually ends at about 3:00 PM. Birthdays are recognized and attendance prizes and other gifts are given at each meeting. Special events include occasional guest speakers and entertainment programs in observance of special holidays. Best of all is the opportunity to get together with friends, both old and new. Membership is open to anyone who has attained the age of fifty-five years. Annual dues of $10.00 are collected to support the activities of this group.
